An Intimate Reflection on ‘Bewitched’ Star Elizabeth Montgomery
As the author of “Twitch Upon a Star,” and “The Essential Elizabeth Montgomery,” I never once asked her for her autograph, to take a picture with her, or to “twitch” her nose. Back in the day (1989, when we first met), that was not the thing to do.
Today, it’s considered cool. And now, she would have embraced it all.
Either way, I earned Elizabeth Montgomery’s respect because I treated her like a person; she respected me because I respected her; because I cared about her career before, during, and after “Bewitched”; because we talked about things like the laundry, and nice restaurants; “real life” stuff.
“Bewitched” director/producer Bill Asher, to whom she was also married during the run of the show, told her, “You really need to talk with Herbie.”
And she did — for several conversations that took place in person and on the phone.
The result was not only four books, in the form of “The Bewitched Book,” “Bewitched Forever,” and the aforementioned “Twitch Upon a Star,” and “The Essential Elizabeth Montgomery,” but “Bewitched: The E! True Hollywood Story” (which became the 7th Highest Rated “True Hollywood Story” in E! history), A&E’s “Biography,” the Reelz Channel’s acclaimed “Elizabeth Montgomery: A Bewitched Life” (documentary, for…
