Casting is Key for the New “Superman”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, “The race to find Clark Kent and Lois Lane has been heating up as top contenders like Nicholas Hoult and David Corenswet pull ahead. The quest for James Gunn’s Superman is up, up, and away. Casting for Superman: Legacy, the feature meant to kick off Gunn and Peter Safran’s much-vaunted first chapter of DC Studios, is hitting a crucial phase, with a shortlist of names bubbling up for the roles of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and even Lex Luthor.”

So, allow me to lend a helping super-hand: I so very wish that Gunn, Safran, and the entire creative force over at DC Comics/Warner Bros., the proprietors of the Superman franchise (as well as Batman, Wonder Woman, etc.) would understand how true they must remain the illustrated images of the superhero comic books.

But unfortunately, they keep missing the mark. And I just keep scratching my head as to why that is the case. What exactly is the problem — especially with the casting, which should be a no-brainer?

For example, only tall, dark, handsome, and broad-shouldered actors need to apply for portrayals of the Clark Kent/Superman and Bruce Wayne/Batman characters. And not just tall actors — but actors who are at least 6’ 6” in stature (minus their Super or Bat-boots). And not just actors with “okay shoulders” — but rather those actors with way larger than…
