My Success: What It Means, How I Got It, and What I Do With It

My success is not based on who I’ve known or slept with; it’s not because of any kind of privileged life, rich friends, colleagues, or family members. I was raised in an inner city neighborhood and came from nothing of what this world calls secure. My parents were not wealthy or influential other than their beautiful hearts.

Everything I have is a result of a lot of hard work…relentless hard work; a measure of talent and gifts, and blatant self-promotion.

And I sure as heck did not sell my soul. Instead, I give it away, as much as possible by being generous and kind when I can…and especially when I can’t…or when there’s nothing in it for me.

I’ve slipped up a few times along the way, burned a few bridges, broken a few hearts, and bruised a few egos…including my own.

But I’ve always picked myself up, dusted myself off, and proclaimed triumph amid diversity, and yeah, jealousy, hurt feelings, shallow waters, and deep dives.

Each time I still somehow manage to mostly rise to the surface of any occasion with the shining bright light that lives within me…that lives within each of us…when we acknowledge its presence.
