According to the Orange County Register, there is increasing support to implement finance classes in California high schools. And that’s a good thing. But how about teaching students of every level, from grade school to university level, about kindness and respect for others, despite and especially due to one’s differences? Where are those classes? The time has come to create and integrate actual courses into the formal curriculum.

A Closer Look

Scott Smith, a professional academic communicator, said, “We spend a great deal of time on character through positive behavior at our schools. After the pandemic, we had many students who needed support, which we provided through our team of mental health professionals, but we’ve grown that support into a more comprehensive approach. Kindness is part of our Peacebuilders’ Pledge at elementary schools. We’re trying.”

Creative artist David Walker observed, “It starts at home with parents. They should be teaching examples and how to budget. Mine did. Knowing teachers and working in a classroom I’ve seen some kids being holy terrors right off the bat. The parents’ excuse is that they both work and don’t have time yet their priority is me time when getting home. Why have kids if you don’t want to give them your time?
