Lasting love has eluded me over the years, for one reason or another.

I’ve tended to gravitate toward the “wrong” women, or the “wrong” women have usually (or unusually) tended to gravitate toward me.

I’ve found success later in life; was not born into money, chose a challenging profession, and the artistic life is not an easy path when it comes to financial stability.

That said, a woman from my past recently approached me; she was in love with me decades ago, but I was not interested. Then, I became interested. But by then it was too late. She was married to a wonderful guy and had three beautiful children.

However, this woman recently approached me, not to strike up a romance, but just to be friends. And yet, I sense that she is still in love with me.

So, I told her very politely, that I felt awkward talking with her; and that it wasn’t proper. It’s one thing if she would be separated from her husband, but she is not.

I told her, “Look — I think you’re terrific. But I blew my chance with you years ago, and there’s nothing I can do about it now. And I certainly don’t want to be the reason for anyone’s marriage breaking up. So, I think you should stop contacting me. You have a great husband and a…
