A Professional and Personal Perspective

People always ask me, “So, what’s the best thing that I can do for my career?”

And I usually tell them, “Live your life!”

I respond with that phrase especially if they’re writers.

Because, as the old adage goes, the best writers write about what they know, and what they know about most is their own life; and how from life comes great experiences, which lead to great stories.

But the whole “live your life” advice-thing is not just for writers. It can be applied for everyone of any vocation and career level.

The answer rests with non-attachment; that particular law of the universe that has been discussed for decades in self-help/spiritual-geared books like The Secret and You Can Have It All.

Another way to explain it is this:

We’re all “clingy” or “needy” at one point in our lives. And admitting that doesn’t lessen the blow, or grant it any more appeal.

By the same token, no one makes it on their own in life, and anyone who says or thinks differently is simply not telling the truth.

It’s all about balance. You don’t want to be chronically clingy or needy all the time…
